Painting
Steve Maddox is an experienced educator and abstract minimalist artist. After over 40 years devoted to public school leadership, he now focuses on his art and providing community service as a gallery teacher/art educator at The Blanton Museum of Art. Acrylic, spray paint, charcoal, and markers are used to create large pieces on canvas. Many layers of paint add texture which I often scrape, scratch, and even spray water on to drip/blend/mingle. Movement, meditation, and mindfulness are powers I integrate in my painting process.

What To expect

My large paintings are studies in color fields that tend to resemble abstract landscapes. A bold pop of color can enhance mood and create a sense of comfort and security. By intentionally using vibrant colors in a living space, you can cultivate a more positive atmosphere, uplifting your spirits and well-being. Color field painting is contemplative and meditative. One can experience the subtle psychological and emotional effects of color. The viewer explores a sense of the infinite and sublime, focusing on the visual experience without recognizable imagery.
