Akazisoko by Akwaeno

Painting
My name is Akwaeno Udosen, and I’m a painter, printmaker, designer, and senior in high school. Currently, I focus on creating oil paintings that represent the variety of emotions, experiences, and perspectives within the Black cultural zeitgeist. My goal is to provide additional context on the Nigerian American experience within the diaspora. Through akazisoko, I aim to create a new space for art, innovation, and culture -pulling inspiration from my Nigerian heritage- with a focus on sustainability. I will debut the first line of upcycled hand screen-printed shirts, pants, and skirts.

What To expect

Guests can expect to view a wide array of my work from the past 5 years, from middle school to high school. This includes paintings, portraits, fashion designs, and prints of many pieces available for sale alongside a limited offering of my one-of-one upcycled garments. Most of my paintings include bright, bold imagery that asks you to dive in and interpret the image and the idea behind it. They illustrate the emotions I experienced while moving through life, alongside my observations of the structures of the world – primarily themes of growing, belief, femininity, and race.
